It's been a while since I took these photographs, but I thought it would be nice to share them
with you before the summer ends.

An interview about my work by Alasdair Foster - part 1- is now online!
It's been so great working with him, asking myself fundamental questions about what I do. I'm not so good at expressing my thoughts and feelings in words, so having dialogues with him and putting things in words were truly meaningful to me. Hope you enjoy reading it!

Had a little tour of Tokyo! I don't know how much I walked, but at least more than 3 hours... The tour started from my house -> Yushima Library -> Ochanomizu then I took the metro to Yoyogi Uehara and then walked to The Japan Folk Crafts Museum -> Ikejiri Ohashi -> Nakameguro -> Shibuya...
The Museum was incredible!! I love everything they have, but their curtains are my favorites...

Had a wonderful lunch break at La Keyaki right next to Shinjuku Gyoen.
They were showing incredible hand crafted textiles from Okinawa.
This annual event is called: nununu panapana
Masayo Tamachi, the chef who lives in Amami Island cooked KOGOMI lunch plate: Ostrich fern lunch plate with fermented rice and sweet potato yogurt like drink from Amami Island. I fell in kove with this drink called MIKI, as I can't drink & eat any dairy products at the moment, so this could be a great substitute of them for my health. :)

Factory in Ichigaya or Kudanshita.
I wanted to come to this bakery shop for a while and finally... :)
Very nice interior with freshly baked breads and tasty lunch dishes.
I want to try their sandwiches next time.

I have finally watched "Paris, Texas". Somehow, it took me ages to watch this film, even though I was always curious about it. I would say it's one of the best films I have watched in last few years. Obviously, Nastassja Kinski's beauty is breath taking, but moreover, the way Travis remained to be invisible and distant from Jane was very interesting. The magic mirror cutting in between them reminded me of one of my projects. Good films always inspire me a lot.

Shinjyuku gyoen was free to enter because it was green day in Japan.

ryo-chan cooked incredible dishes!

Golden week is over now but it was a fantastic weather most of the time and we enjoyed the sunshine in Kamakura.

Tear mirror installation at NO-MA : made from sugar & collected tears.
Hope you can come and see the actual pieces :)

Finished installing my "tear mirror" pieces at NO-MA, Shiga, Japan
They put me into a beautiful storehouse space within a historical building.
Very different atmosphere from any other exhibitions that I had in my life.

After working hard, my sweet friends took me to an incredible restaurant called
The chef from California served (my crazy) allergy-free dishes!
All handmade, great selection of ingredients that are carefully crafted.
Having delicious food sharing with best people without worrying about allergy means a lot to me in my life.
Arigato!!

Almost ready for heading to Kobe & Shiga.
Today's humidity is 96% in Tokyo... Hope tomorrow will be drier to keep my work safe.  See you Tokyo!

Some photos from last few weeks.

Quite excited participating in an exhibition from next week at NO-MA in Shiga: a beautiful Japanese old house turned into a museum.
Humidity has been super high for last few days that I ruined many of my work for this exhibition... Now I can see how Japanese crafts have been influenced a lot by the weather and the season. The weather forecast saying that tomorrow will be dry and sunny :) Need to do more work work work...

This was my first visit to Izu. The Ryokan we stayed in was maybe the best Ryokan I have stayed in my life. Nothing too luxurious, nothing too much or less. Just about right for everything.  What I discover the first time during this trip was the beauty of mountain sakura. It's rather subtle and abstract. I would love to come back again next year.

Never imagined to have this wonderful place hidden behind the Mt. Maya.
Luckily the weather was great and we spent 4 hours or so there...
